The adventure begins!
It is a matter some importance that as a reader you understand that our definition of adventure means for a true adventure it must suck at least some of the time while you are having it... otherwise it is just a run-of-the-mill holiday.
We prepare - Colin and Mark meet at our house by 8:00 AM and we are on the road before 8:30.
Colin rode with us as far as the bridge to Canada and then tooted and was off for his own adventure.
I have to say.... the day was completely perfect for riding - sunny, then a few clouds... not too hot.. really quite lovely.
It was enough to make one doubt it was truly an adventure....
Until....
Mark got a flat tire. Weird - looks like the tube slipped and broke where the valve stem was. He handled having a flat tire at 60 mph well. Larry and I went back and had a mini tire party including smoked almonds, Deet, and necessary tools. A zillion folks stopped and asked if we needed anything.....
My favorite was this guy that lived 20 feet from where we were changing the tire. (Apparently he builds motorcycles and would have had any tools we needed if we didn't already have them on the bikes.)
We've had a nice dinner and are ready to call it a day.
Stats:
490 miles
1 flat
