July 12

Tok to Fairbanks......
It was a puny little 200 mile ride, but we didn't sleep much last night. Not sure if it was the light, changing the flat... or just internal head games as you travel from one time zone to another.  Whatever it was we were wiped out.  Got to UFA around 1:00 - found where we needed to be - couldn't 'check in' until 3:00 so walked down the street to the student center and had a bite to eat. I was fast asleep by 3:15 and slept for almost 3 hours.  I think Mark slept a little and I don't think Larry did..... I'm pretty sure it is against his religion.

The dorm is full of Prudhoe bound or returning motorcyclist....  There are probably 15 bikes all loaded outside in the little parking lot.  Great folks.  Everyone has a story......  flats, wipe-out, lost bearings, oil problems... people stuck here at UFA for 5 days waiting for parts. Now at first blush that seems like a bad thing - not so!

The guy in the room next to us has had the most 'go wrong' of the folks we've talked to and his comment was, "This is why we do adventure motorcycling.  I mean, we could sit at home and watch a movie about it - but  we wouldn't be experiencing it - and the humanity of others that comes when you are in trouble."   Now that is an attitude to emulate!

I didn't take pictures today - it was overcast and I had all I could do just to get down the road.... Larry took a few and honestly, he has a gift. :-)

... and unloading at UAF
The nice guy next door said he'd share a glass of wine with us.  It is one of his jobs - choosing wines for restaurants ......  maybe this helps with his fabulous outlook on life.  Tomorrow is a "down" day - we're unsettled about the tires and if we need to swap them out before the Dalton.  We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Oh.. and got to let the guys know - I think we have the last two rooms in Prudhoe Bay... at a premium $.... ahh... it is all good.... It is why we do adventure motorcycling.

Gonna' go see if my neighbor's door is open. :-)  Cheers.

Oh, and thank Lar for all his photos! Is Mark shooting some vids w/ the new camera? I'm looking forward to seeing some of those someday if he is!

  2. Mark is taking some video - maybe I can check some of them out today and include a clip. Scott and Linds gave us a mountable camera (just because they are amazing!) so I'll see how those are coming out as well. Most days I try to do a blend of photos from all three of us- yesterday I just never got Mark's camera, and I didn't take any. Love you, Bud.

  3. Hey Larry, I have been totally enjoying the pics and Lolo's commentary of the awesome adventure you folks are on. It's a nice break from (no I won't even mention the place! It would be bad karma...) the every toil (right!) of you know where. Your cyber friend, Mark
