July 13

For a 'down day' it was very memorable! A visit to Dan at Cyclewise turned into a day long event with food and entertainment.  This shop is really in Dan's garage so it feels pretty personal. Dan is kind of a curmudgeon - and I think he'd be proud to called such - full of sarcasm and criticism for the most part, then fires up the grill and brings out packages of 'reindeer sausage' --- There are times to ask questions and there are times to just go with it.  They were great.

We spent a good 7 hours in Dan's yard laughing, talking, and sharing stories with all the other guys waiting to have their bikes up on the lift. Mostly it was for changing oil and a few tire changes.....

Half way through the day our fellow traveler, Ken, pulled into the yard! We had run into him a couple times since Watson Lake. Good to see him and that he made it this far. The work was sort of an aside - the main event was hanging out and enjoying the company.

A few miles back toward the dorms we spotted 2 good sized moose crossing the road.

When we pulled in the lot we had a smiling Colin here in Alaska! Welcome aboard, Colin!!  Got settled in and went out for a bite to eat.

In all honesty, I'm facing tomorrow with anticipation and a little trepidation.  To top off the general road horror stories, Dan delighted in telling exactly how I was 'Bear Bait' and  the terrible fate of women before me....

Living life fully....  Wiseman tomorrow night!

  1. The people you meet and the stories along the way are a very key part of the adventure and yeah the tale of the guy that made it through with nary a problem is pretty boring. It's the horror stories that get told not the ones where everything turns out OK. You wear gear because, so it would be prudent to carry bear mace but you'll all do great! Just watched a series of youtube vids about a man & woman who did the run while winter was still in full bore! Pretty impressive. Best of luck guys! love to you all!

  2. Bear-Bait! Love that. It's gotta be due to the 'Reindeer Sausages'.
