July 17 & 18

Much warmer on the 17th ... A few sprinkles to start out but it cleared off for a beautiful day of riding.  We saw moose, musk ox, and a wolf! When we'd come north it had been overcast in this area so it was nice to see it in the sun.

Packing up in front of 'Wolf Camp'...

Our hero..... This woman was bicycling to Prudhoe Bay and then heading south to Tierra del Fuego ...... We chatted with her briefly at dinner in Coldfoot, and then she camped by the river just at the turn off for Wiseman.  We passed her on the road again 30+ miles out of town heading  north.  On the way south we found her again just 90 miles south of Deadhorse......  She was all grins and thumbs up..... Absolutely amazing! She had to be averaging 50+ miles a day through the Brooks range.

WOLF!  (with a little lunch  - looks like he orders well)

Atigun Pass..... Family portrait

What a day!  Our B&B was taken but we stayed at the Borealis Lodge in Wisman.....

The next day had a fair amount of drizzle and a made the roads a little more challenging, but still feeling incredibly lucky.   This is the grader experience ---- Notice Colin checking out the sizable berm left by the grader... and in this instance note there is a semi coming up the road. They were pretty generous but did require their side of the road.  Everyone made it across pretty seamlessly except me.  My bike stalled straddling the rocky mound. No worries. I just stopped - the semi passed - and then throttled through. (Apparently there was a big rock in front of my front tire as well..)

Okay - Just found out if we aren't checked out of here in 15 min. we get charged an additional night.  Probably won't have wifi at Thompson's Eagle's Claw Motorcycle Park. Larry and I have reservations to sleep in the ambulance - really... that is one of the options.

Later.........

  1. Sleep in the Ambulance? Does that cost more? or less? If more... make sure that you get to look out the window. I'm still pissed that I did not get to look out the window when I got a helicopter ambulance ride in VA all those years ago.

  2. Wow Sis, What an awesome update. The photos are all spectacular and great to hear a little about what was going on. Better to spend time in an ambulance when you don't need it's services. I have a few memories of my ride in one but I wasn't sleeping, just in a hell of a lot of pain that they couldn't seem to help me with. Awesome stuff you guys are doing! Thanks for share the experience along the way! :-)
