July 20

It is July 21 - Thursday.... and I'm sitting in the internet Cafe in Dawson City, Yukon.  My netbook seems to be having some cultural differences with the local connection.  Larry is working on it (because that is just the kind of guy he is...)  I am using one of the PCs in the cafe.

Yesterday.... Tok to Chicken to Dawson City via Top of the World Highway.  It still makes me smile......   I suspect this is a painful road in the rain. It was perfect in the sunny weather we had yesterday - swift rivers, the perfume of sweet clover, superior visability of vistas of over a hundred miles (okay... I don't really know the distances but it seemed like hundreds of miles to the distant mountain ranges and I'm compromising saying a hundred..)... and moments of adrenaline as we dealt with various road challenges. I had the best spot as I was leading.... the dust was fairly horrific in places.

We took a load of pictures and I'll try to load them tonight when we are in Whitehorse. We stayed at our least favorite hostel...  Dawson City River Hostel & Camping.  The cabin was fairly sweet - and nice padding.....  Doesn't really make up for a restroom (interpret outhouse) I never found, "bathing" in the bath house with a pitcher of freezing cold rain water...

Dinner was good - Greek place called "The Drunken Goat"  ---- walked around, lost a couple of games of pool to Mark.... checked out the very swift moving Yukon River.... then took the ferry back to our cabin.

Planning on taking Larry up to the Dome shortly and then check out some local art work in Dawson City.  We're planning on leaving by 11:00 am for Whitehorse as we have tires to pick up and have changed before our long trek on pavement east.

It is a bright, clear, crisp day in the northern Yukon Territories - the Tasty Byte had a great bran muffin and good coffee.  Another day on the road.

It is good to hear all is proceeding well and that you got the Top of the World Highway in decent weather. As you know, my ride down to Anchorage was stunning. I got to see Denali unfettered by clouds! It also was VERY cold!

BTW, I remember the Greek place. I had dinner there when I was there 5 years ago. I guess brilliant minds....

  2. Ahhh, sounds great! Having a bit of a heat wave with the index near 100. It's nearly 11:30PM and right around 80 or so inside and out but I'm pretty comfy. Loved the news! Glad to know you're doing well! xo
