Burns Lake to McBride British Columbia... only about 300 miles.
Reservations for a table of three for lunch.
Pleasant riding..... occasional rain, but not cold ...... and beautiful clouds.
My exhaust header flange decided to loose its flange thingy nuts which made my little KLR 650 sound like a Harley... The guys refused to ride with me anymore until we fixed it. Fortunately we'd stopped in a reasonable sized town that had a hardware store where we got the necessary bits to fix it. Really only took about a 1/2 hour or so but we decided to call it a night - it was a sign... McBride is the place to spend the night and prepare ourselves for losing another hour tomorrow.
I
've got more map pics and can show the trip in a variety of ways - but not all of my upload connections are very quick - Soooo for a brief overview....
Vermont to Cornwall and into Canada - back into the States at Sault Saint Marie, Ontario. This is our favorite northerly route west ---- Michigan's U.P. is really lovely. Then, in to Wisconsin, MN, ND, and Montana (love Montana!).... and the Rockies North into BC and Alberta.
(up 93- over to Grande Prarie -- night of the 'Wild Winds' --- up to Watson Lake where we now have doubled back on the way home.... Watson Lake to Whitehorse looked very different West to East than it did when we first traveled it.... Okay, on the way out, Rod... we went t
o Tok, then Fairbanks, Wiseman, Prudhoe Bay, back to Wiseman, back to Fairbanks, back to Tok. Coming back we split and went north to catch Top of the World Highway and into Dawson City. From Dawson we went south back to Whitehorse over to Watson Lake and down the Cassier Highway --spectacular-- to Stewart BC and Hyder, Alaska. We've nearly met up with our tracks again and will tomorrow when we hit Jasper, Alberta. We kind of made a figure 8 in BC / Yukon / Alaska.......
The yellow line is heading West - the orange is heading back East..... Alaska is barely on this map... I'll give you better links soon.
Lolo: Very good to hear that the header issue was quickly resolved. Re: Burns Lake...that is the only place I got a speeding ticket in all 7400 miles I did on my Alaska ride. Hopefully, it was a better place for you! Re: McBride...small town, but big enough for heli ski operations. I stopped there on the way up on my trip. What route are you taking for your return east? I see you have gone by the Yellowhead Highway....
ReplyDeleteNice update Loretta and I love seeing you working on your bike. Glad it was a relatively easy fix. Thanks for the route info and photo. I'll have to do some more plotting and checking out the route closer up. Hope the weather mostly shines on you. xo
ReplyDelete@ Colin - We'll probably follow Rt. 2 east - think we can 'do' Road to the Sun tomorrow if the weather holds (raining now) ...stop in Duluth at the Aerostich and try to fit in another event before we're home.
ReplyDelete@Rod... Buddy, we'll totally have to get together with maps and talk about the trip that you will totally have to take. Love you!
