July 7 & 8

We stayed in a beautiful place in Lake Louise, Alberta last night....  All kinds of amenities - except an accessible  wifi.  Now I'm sitting in a Huskey truck stop in Hinton with great connectivity..... go figure.

The miracle worker at the credit union, Jen, made our overnight paperwork happen. Larry and I had to sign some papers and mail it back to her while we were still in the US.. so there  was a bit of a hunt for a post office on our way out of town. There is always a silver lining. Great kids on their bikes out in front of the post office just a few miles before crossing into Canada.

CANADA... Oh! Canada!  This 315 mile ride into the Rockies was Ahhhh-may-zing.  All  three of us ran out of memory on our cameras.  (I'll fill in some pics tonight- hopefully.) Spectacular.  Take yourself there..... Completely majestic, striking beauty 360 degrees all afternoon.

and even animals...

July 8
Those mountains with fog and numerous rainbows made the first couple hours of Friday morning almost spiritual.....
  We also saw a bear..

and a little closer up....

The day went pretty rapidly down hill from there...
You know that pain that starts right across your shoulders? ... kind of a burning sensation spreads down your spine and into your arms? It was mostly in the 40s all day with tremendous wild gusts of wind and a driving rain. We stopped at about 7:00 pm (our original destination was still 89 miles away) and had a conference. It wasn't really safe trying to maneuver the bikes through water and tractor trailer trucks under those conditions.  So.... here we are - drying out-- God Bless you Larry for doing laundry and drying out the gear - and hoping tomorrow brings the sunshine back.

Good point, Robin! BC is a LOT bigger than Montana....... maybe one day we'll get to the other side of it!
We went somewhere in the vicinity of 400 miles today.

  1. Awesome pics! Sorry about the nasty rain & wind and I'm glad you traded some precious miles for a safe, warm & dry reprieve. Looking forward to hearing about the sunny next day. :-)
